Infertility treatment is now free for all citizens of Armenia

The RA government has decided to make infertility treatment free for everyone. “Regardless of the place of residence, social, marital status, the program will be open to all citizens of Armenia and they will be able to overcome infertility with the financing of the state budget,” said Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan at the government meeting held on January 5.

Let’s remind that the program for overcoming infertility has been in operation for two years. If earlier the priority was given to servicemen, families of fallen servicemen, citizens living in border areas, now the scope of beneficiaries of this program will be expanded and all citizens of Armenia will be given the opportunity to use the healthcare program with assisted reproductive technologies. Unmarried or divorced women can also become beneficiaries of the program.

According to the Minister of Health, 251 children have been born since the start of the program in 2020. The executive hopes that the demographic situation of the country will improve as a result of the adoption of the decision.

It should be noted that the level of infertility in Armenia is high. In 2021, according to the quantitative survey “Prevalence of infertility among the population of RA” carried out by the United Nations Population Fund and APR group, it is 16.8%. According to the definition of the World Health Organization, the 15% level of infertility is considered a crisis and affects demographics, fertility.
